Accessibility Statement

Effective Date: April 20, 2026

1. Scope of Document

This Accessibility Statement ("Statement") describes the James Scott Brown Foundation's ("JSBF," "Foundation," "we," "us," or "our") commitment to ensuring that the JSBF Legal Intelligence Platform at jamesscottbrownfoundation.com (the "Platform") is accessible to all individuals, including those with disabilities. This Statement outlines the accessibility standards the Foundation strives to meet, known limitations, and the channels available for reporting accessibility barriers.

2. Definitions

  • "WCAG" refers to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), which provide internationally recognized standards for web accessibility.
  • "Assistive Technology" refers to hardware or software used by individuals with disabilities to access and interact with digital content, including screen readers, magnification software, voice recognition tools, and alternative input devices.
  • "Accessibility Barrier" refers to any feature, design element, or functionality of the Platform that prevents or impedes access by individuals with disabilities.

3. Accessibility Commitment

The Foundation is committed to providing an inclusive digital experience for all users, regardless of ability. JSBF strives to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at the AA conformance level. This commitment extends to all publicly accessible pages, forms, tools, and interactive features of the Platform.

The Foundation recognizes that accessibility is an ongoing process and that achieving full conformance requires continuous effort, testing, and improvement. JSBF integrates accessibility considerations into its design, development, and content creation processes and regularly evaluates the Platform against current accessibility standards.

4. Accessibility Features

The Platform incorporates the following accessibility features:

  • Semantic HTML Structure: The Platform uses proper heading hierarchy, landmark regions, and semantic HTML elements to support navigation by assistive technologies.
  • Keyboard Navigation: All interactive elements, including forms, buttons, links, and navigation menus, are accessible via keyboard input without requiring a mouse.
  • Color Contrast: Text and interactive elements are designed to meet minimum contrast ratios as specified by WCAG 2.1 AA guidelines.
  • Alternative Text: Images and non-text content include descriptive alternative text to convey meaning to users of screen readers.
  • Responsive Design: The Platform adapts to various screen sizes and orientations, supporting access from desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.
  • Focus Indicators: Visible focus indicators are provided for keyboard navigation to help users track their position on the page.
  • Form Labels and Instructions: Form fields include associated labels, instructions, and error messages to assist users in completing forms accurately.
  • Consistent Navigation: Navigation patterns are consistent across the Platform to support predictability and ease of use.
  • Text Resizing: The Platform supports browser-level text resizing without loss of content or functionality.

5. Known Limitations

Despite the Foundation's commitment to accessibility, certain limitations may exist:

  • Third-Party Content: Some content or functionality provided by third-party services integrated with the Platform may not fully conform to WCAG 2.1 AA standards. The Foundation works with its service providers to address accessibility issues but cannot guarantee the accessibility of third-party components.
  • Complex Data Visualizations: Certain data visualizations and interactive charts may present challenges for users of assistive technologies. The Foundation provides alternative text descriptions and, where feasible, tabular data alternatives for complex visualizations.
  • PDF Documents: Some PDF documents available through the Platform may not be fully accessible. The Foundation is working to remediate existing documents and ensures that new documents are created with accessibility in mind.
  • Dynamic Content: Some dynamically loaded content may not be immediately announced by all screen readers. The Foundation uses ARIA live regions and other techniques to improve the accessibility of dynamic content updates.

6. User Rights and Support

All users have the right to access the Platform's content and services. If you encounter an accessibility barrier that prevents you from accessing any content or functionality, you have the right to:

  • Report the accessibility barrier through the Foundation's contact channels.
  • Request the content or information in an alternative accessible format.
  • Receive a response to your accessibility inquiry within five (5) business days.
  • Receive a substantive resolution or alternative accommodation within a reasonable timeframe.

To report an accessibility barrier or request an accommodation, please contact the Foundation through the Contact page. When reporting an accessibility issue, please include the URL of the page, a description of the barrier encountered, the assistive technology used (if applicable), and your preferred contact method.

7. Foundation Rights and Ongoing Efforts

The Foundation is committed to the following ongoing accessibility efforts:

  • Regular accessibility audits of the Platform using both automated testing tools and manual evaluation.
  • Integration of accessibility requirements into the Platform's development lifecycle.
  • Training of development and content teams on accessibility best practices.
  • Prompt investigation and remediation of reported accessibility barriers.
  • Periodic review and update of this Accessibility Statement to reflect current practices and conformance status.

The Foundation reserves the right to prioritize accessibility remediation efforts based on the severity of the barrier, the number of users affected, and the technical feasibility of the fix.

8. Compliance

The Foundation strives to comply with applicable accessibility laws and regulations, including Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act (for US federal accessibility requirements), the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and the European Accessibility Act (for services accessible within the European Economic Area). This Statement reflects the Foundation's good-faith efforts to meet these requirements and to provide an accessible experience for all users.

9. Limitation of Liability

WHILE JSBF MAKES REASONABLE EFFORTS TO ENSURE THE ACCESSIBILITY OF THE PLATFORM, THE FOUNDATION DOES NOT WARRANT THAT THE PLATFORM WILL BE FULLY ACCESSIBLE TO ALL USERS IN ALL CIRCUMSTANCES. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, JSBF SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES ARISING FROM ACCESSIBILITY BARRIERS ON THE PLATFORM, PROVIDED THAT THE FOUNDATION HAS MADE REASONABLE EFFORTS TO ADDRESS SUCH BARRIERS.

10. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

This Accessibility Statement shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States of America and the applicable laws of the jurisdiction in which the Foundation is organized. Nothing in this Statement limits any rights afforded under mandatory accessibility laws in the User's jurisdiction.

11. Updates and Modifications

JSBF reserves the right to update this Accessibility Statement at any time to reflect changes in the Platform's accessibility features, known limitations, or applicable legal requirements. Changes will be reflected by an updated "Effective Date" at the top of this page.

12. Contact Information

For accessibility-related questions, barrier reports, or accommodation requests, please contact the Foundation through the Contact page on our website. The Foundation is committed to addressing all accessibility inquiries promptly.
